After the success of The Surge, the hardcore Action RPG released in May 2017 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, Focus Home Interactive and Deck 13 (creators of the first game and Lords of the Fallen) have announced the renewal of their partnership and the development of The Surge 2, with a release date planned for 2019 on consoles and PC and it looks like it will be a big improvement.
According to those that had a chance to check out The Surge 2's at E3 2018, Deck 13 seems to have embraced all of these criticisms and worked hard to address them in the sequel. Apparently, the result, is a promising action-adventure, Souls-like game that presents an intriguing world filled with secrets and hectic combat encounters, including a battle with the villainous robot Goddess Helena.
All the action of the first game was contained in a CREO-owned industrial complex, but this time, the action moves over to a city that is dealing with the crisis brought on by the nanobots. It's much more open than in The Surge with a whimsical layout of interweaving mountain paths and groomed gardens, quite similar to Crisis 3. The Surge 2 keeps what fans and critics loved about the original – hardcore combat utilizing a unique, dynamic limb targeting system and deep character progression – while also expanding greatly upon the formula. The Surge 2 takes place in a brand new environment: a sprawling, devastated city with larger and more ambitious level design, made possible by Deck13’s upgraded and improved engine.
The Surge 2 will release on consoles and PC in 2019.
