The Messenger is a 2D platformer action game, developed by Sabotage Studios and published by DevolverDigital, released for the Nintendo Switch and Steam in August of this year.

Sabotage Studios was inspired by the classic Ninja Gaiden series that originated on the Nintendo Entertainment System in the late 80s; borrowing the game's controls and some of the aesthetics, although The Messenger does quite often go into 16-Bit mode, changing its graphics considerably.

Today, DevolverDigital has revealed that there is some free donwloadable content for The Messenger. This free expansion, titled Picnic Panic, which is expected to become available in 2019, will include 3 new tropical levels, and some new boss fights to keep things interesting for players.

Take a look:

As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.

The Messenger is currently available for the Nintendo Switch and Steam.
