Outlast originally released for the PC in 2013 and subsequently arrived on consoles in 2014.
Outlast 2 released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2017 — and for the Nintendo Switch in March of last year. Despite the sequel not going down quite as well as the first instalment;
Outlast lives on.
The developer of the horror game series, Red Barrels, recently announced
The Outlast Trials. Unlike
Outlast 2 and its predecessor,
The Outlast Trials will be a multiplayer game. That is to say that it retains the survival horror aspects of the other
Outlast games but will allow up to four players to co-operatively play together. However, you can also play through the entire game on your own.
The Outlast Trials takes place during the Cold War. As the title is still in development, not much is currently known about it. There's no release date and we can only assume that it will be available for the aforementioned set of platforms that its predecessors were available for.
Red Barrels have released an eery teaser image via Twitter (
@TheRedBarrels) which features a trio of test subjects who appear to be wearing night-vision goggles.
"Set in the era of the Cold War, The Outlast Trials will allow players to face the horrors that await by themselves or with other test subjects..." reads the announcement tweet.
