The reborn video game giant, THQ Nordic, has taken over the rights of the Kingdoms of Amalur license, as well as those of the multiplayer role-playing game Copernicus. The publisher has bought them for an amount that has not transcended to 38 Studios, former owners and developers.

38 Studios, the company owned by baseball player Curt Schilling, was bankrupt. A few years ago, the team was forced to auction the company's properties as well as all its licenses, something that angered Schilling, who came to value Kingdoms of Amalur in more than 1 billion dollars. After a long legal process in which the non-payment of a credit worth 75 million dollars was claimed, the license has passed on to THQ Nordic.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning was born in 2012 as the first game based on the new universe of Amalur, a fantasy world with 10,000 years of history designed by the renowned writer R.A. Salvatore, game designer Ken Rolston - Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - and comic book sketcher and screenwriter Todd MacFarlane.

It was an open-world RPG in which players explored a huge fantasy world, with freedom to move through its different regions, dealing with different races and carrying out all kinds of adventures.

This is not the first saga or license that THQ Nordic acquires. The company is slowly building a varied catalog, and a few weeks ago, it announced that it acquired the Time Splitters saga, as well as closed an important distribution agreement with Microsoft for select titles.
