Tribute Games and Dotemu's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge was a nice throwback to the side-scrolling beat 'em up's of the '90s. It's pixel-based visuals and fun gameplay loop resulted in over one million copies sold within a week of its release last year.
With fans wanting more from these Heroes in a Half Shell, Dotemu is set to release a new expansion, titled Dimension Shellshock. Detailed on the PlayStation Blog, the highlight of Dimension Shellshock is the introduction of a new Survival Mode.
Interrupting a pizza party, Dimension X’s raddest rebels – the Neutrinos – call on the Turtles for help. The Foot Clan has been stomping across dimensions and only the mutant martial artists can stop them! Always ready to squash the bad guys, the Turtles agree to hit pause on the party and jump into the multiversal melee.
In typical survival mode fashion, you'll enter the dimensional gauntlet and battle your way through a variety of arenas as you face off against all sorts of enemies. As you battle across these worlds, you'll collect shards that are used to assemble dimension crystals. These crystals allow you to travel deeper within dimensions and eventually face off against Shredder. If you defeat him, you can either return home or keep fighting in an attempt to rise to the top of the leaderboards.
There's also a really cool twist to Dimension Shellshock that gives you the opportunity to play as a villain! When you defeat a wave of enemies, two rewards portals will appear that not only take you to your next fight but present a game-changing bonus or perk. There are pizzas that heal you, shards or canisters of ooze. The ooze gives you access to special mutation perks. Becoming a "Rude Dude" doubles your attack power but also makes you susceptible to more damage. Boss Mutations let you transform into Bebop, Rocksteady or even Shredder for a few rounds.
Dimension Shellshock for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredders Revenge will be released later this year as a paid add-on. For those who haven't played the base game, you can play it on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC. There's even a mobile version available for iOS and Android that was published by Netflix earlier this year.
