During the Nintendo Switch presentation, ahead of its release in March of 2017, one of the games that were revealed to be coming out for the new handheld hybrid console was Ubisoft's
Steep—a Winter extreme sports videogame.
Steep was originally released in 2016 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam with a Nintendo Switch version on the way. Some people assumed that, since the game was shown in the official Nintendo Switch presentation, the game would be a launch title for the console. As time went on people simply forgot about the game, whereas others began to think that Steep had been cancelled.
After almost 2 years since the game's announcement for the Switch,
Steep has been officially confirmed to be cancelled. The new information came from the verified
Steep Twitter acount in which they replied to a user asking if there were any news on the Nintendo Switch version of the game. The reply the user got was that they are still committed to supporting the game but they have stopped development on the Switch game.
While this may be disappointing to some Nintendo Switch fans, this is not really surprising since the developer's silence was very telling. That said, Ubisoft and Nintendo have a long history of getting along(
Mario + Rabbids, and
Starlink: Battle for Atlas introducing
Star Fox come to mind) so there's no doubt that the Switch will keep getting some quality titles from them—just not
Steep.
