Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra recently revealed (via
Comicbook.com) that the live-action movie adaptation of the Uncharted video-game series is in
“advanced development."
The movie will star Tom Holland as a young version of the games' protagonist: Nathan Drake. There were reports earlier this year that Chris Hemsworth, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Prine, and Woody Harrelson are all up for the role of Sully, the afformentioned thief's mentor. However, there is a chance that the shortlist is fabricated.
Now, the Uncharted movie has been in development for quite some time and those involved with its production have changed multiple times. originally set to be directed by
Stranger Things showrunner Shawn Levy before he dropped out.
The film will now instead be directed by Dan Tratchenberg who is known for directing
10 Cloverfield Lane, the upcoming
Houdini movie, and an awesome
Portal short-film which you can check out below.
This new tidbit of information comes way in tandem with the the
news from a couple of days ago, that being that Sony has launched a special division, named PlayStation Productions, to assist in adapting their many IPs to the big screen.
Sony is yet to reveal any production of filming dates for the
Uncharted project. However, with the film now in advanced development, that sort of thing will probably commence later this year - and we'll be sure to cover it.
