While some of Hollywood's most promising directors had a shot at bringing Nathan Drake's adventures to the big screen, Travis Knight was the one who held the most promise.
Having made his name in animation (Kubo And The Two Strings) before making his live-action debut with Bumblebee, many fans were eager to have him helm the first Uncharted movie.
According to multiple insiders, scheduling issues are the reason why Knight had to leave the project. Tom Holland, the star of the film, is committed to return as Spider-Man in a Sony film due for release on July 16, 2021.
As a result, the production of that movie will inevitably push Uncharted from its current December 18, 2020 start date. Knight is unlikely to stay on board. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are still set to play Nathan Drake and Sully respectively.
The most recent draft of the script was written by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway. The film will be produced by Charles Roven, Alex Gartner, Avi Arad and Ari Arad.
