Uncharted is a series of games that borrow some ideas from franchises like the Indiana Jones movies and, to some extent, even the classic Tomb Raider games. The games feature main character Nathan Drake, who is a charismatic treasure hunter who is constantly making jokes about the situations he's in, no matter how hairy these are—which made him a very likeable character from the very beginning.

Nathan Drake was inspired by fictional characters like Indiana Jones, and even some celebrities like Johnny Knoxville—in terms of personality and appearance—but there's always the one person who is always brought up when it comes to actually playing Nathan Drake on screen, and that is Firefly and Castle actor Nathan FIllion.

For the longest time, fans of the Uncharted series have been wanting to see Fillion playing Nathan Drake—who has an uncanny resemblance to the character. After Fillion teased his followers on social media, over the weekend, fans knew that he was in some way involved with something related to Uncharted—perhaps even teasing a role in the upcoming movie.

Today we found out that Nathan Fillion was actually playing Nathan Drake in an Uncharted live action fan film by director Allan Unguar—in what most fans are already calling the best-ever videogame adaptation film, even if it isn't a full motion picture—that was released for everyone to watch online. After the fan film was released, Fillion made an appearance on an episode of Kotaku Splitscreen, where he discussed the details about the Uncharted fan film, and how it came to be.

As reported by Kotaku, Fillion spoke on Splitscreen to promote the Uncharted fan film that had been uploaded on social media this morning. Fillion said that he met Allan Unguar through a mutual friend and then "Over thai vegan dinner, Alan expressed his love for Uncharted", calling him a passionate fan with a vision for the series. "And then in May, we got together and put this thing together", explained Fillion.

While Fillion says he has never pitched Sony the idea of making an Uncharted movie, he was always open to it. "We wanted to scratch an itch—we wanted to see something, and we didn’t want to wait", he said. "Our goal has been achieved. If something comes from this, that’s just icing on the cake".

An official Uncharted movie is currently being developed by Sony and will star the Marvel Cinematic Universe's very own Spider-Man, Tom Holland, as a young Nathan Drake. While Nathan Fillion is still open to the idea of starring as Nathan Drake in an official movie if he ever gets a call, that's up for the studio to decide.

After the amazing reception that today's Uncharted fan film has had, there's no doubt that Sony will know about it and maybe they'll give Fillion a role in the movie, whether as an older Nathan Drake, or perhaps even as his friend, and mentor Victor Sullivan. Whatever the case, we'll keep our fingers crossed.
