The latest summer update for Animal Crossing: New Horizons added firework, the ability to visit other players' islands through dreams, and Island Backup & Restoration. These were all big features Nintendo specifically highlighted; however, players have noticed something else has come to the game: tripping.
Since the update, players have noticed that their villager, on occasion, will randomly trip for seemingly no good reason. However, quiet addition has sparked speculation that Nintendo could be teasing some sort of luck system coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Previous games in the franchise have featured a luck system, a hidden mechanic that could influence certain aspects of the game, such as obtaining rare items, earning bells, or befriending villagers. Each game has handled luck differently but in most cases it ties into the fortune telling panther, Katrina. Katrina isn't in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, but it's possible she could be the next NPC villager to join the game.
Tying into this new tripping system also seems to be a new DIY recipe, the King Tut mask. Upon finding a gold nugget, you will unlock this special DIY, which then requires five additional gold nuggets to craft. Wearing the King Tut Mask will make your character trip far more often.
It's possible this could just be a fun Easter egg and homage to previous games in the franchise. Or maybe Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be getting a luck system.
