For those players hoping for the Nintendo Switch to get a price cut for the holiday season, it is best not to hold your breath — as Nintendo of Japan President Shuntaro Furukawa has recently revealed that a price cut is not in the company's plans; at least, not any time soon.
During Nintendo's six-month Financial Results Briefing, one of the shareholders asked whether Nintendo had any plans to lower the price of the Nintendo Switch, and Furukawa stated that they actually want to keep the console's price point "for as long as possible."
"
We want to maintain the value of our products and sell them at their current price points for as long as possible, so we have no plans to reduce prices at this time." We want to improve profitability by increasing the number of units sold and selling the Nintendo Switch family of hardware for as long as possible."
This year has been particularly good for Nintendo in terms of new, and exclusive software, and the launch of the Nintendo Switch Lite — a budget-friendly version of the original Switch — has proven to be quite the success among people who only want a handheld experience out of the Nintendo Switch family of systems.
While Furukawa's reply may discourage some players from purchasing a Nintendo Switch, the Nintendo Switch is still a very viable option, and is — more than likely — the reason why a price cut isn't yet part of Nintendo's plan.
