We're just hours away from the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct. The highly anticipated presentation will finally share the eagerly awaited details about the Switch successor.
Nintendo has been tight-lipped about the contents of the Switch 2 Direct, although we figure we'll get launch details such as a release date, pricing, and pre-order information. We'll also hopefully learn more about the Switch 2's internal hardware as well as any new features, including the mysterious new "C" button.
The C button, which is not featured in the current Switch model, was first discovered back in January at CES. Peripheral and accessory makers had replicas of the Switch 2 on the show floor and one featured an unlabeled "C" button.
Despite all of the leaks that have come out about the Switch 2, no one quite knows the purpose of the C button. There have been dozens of theories about its functionality and it seems Nintendo is leaning into the excitement.
On the Nintendo Today mobile app, the company posted a teaser for the Switch 2 Direct. And it's all about the Switch 2's C button.
The video begins with a brief intro jingle that some fans theorize could be the Switch 2's startup sound or menu music. The video then zooms in to the C button and shows a finger press it, resulting in another sound effect. Unfortunately, that's all we get.
There were theories that the "C" button could stand for "Connect," perhaps allowing local players to join a game on the Switch 2 with their smartphone. Others have speculated that it could be some sort of chat party function.
Thankfully, we don't have to wait too much longer for the answer to be unveiled. The Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation will begin at 6:00 a.m. PT / 9:00 a.m. ET on Wednesday, April 2nd. Nintendo has only confirmed that the live stream will run for approximately 60 minutes, which means it should be packed with exciting details.
It's currently rumored that pre-orders for the Switch 2 will go live on April 9th, one week from the reveal event. The system itself is expected to launch this Summer. Again, though, none of this has been confirmed yet. The Switch 2 Direct should answer most of our biggest questions.
