Yesterday, the official Twitter account for Sega Japan revealed that Sega Genesis/Mega Drive classic
Out Run will be headed to the Nintendo Switch in 2018.
Out Run will be part of the
Sega Ages series, that already has seen the original
Sonic the Hedgehog and
Lightening Force: Quest for Darkstar released on Nintendo's handheld hybrid console.
Given that the announcement only provided a provisional release date for Japan and did not offer an official release date for Western countries, Eurogamer reached out to Sega Japan for clarification on whether the classic racing title would be announced or not.
Sega Japan has confirmed that
Out Run will, indeed, be released in Europe. The game, however, will not be released in 2018 like in Japan, but in early 2019. There is still no confirmation about a North American release, so it could end up releasing either in 2018 or in early 2019 like in Europe; we'll just have to wait until Sega gives us an official release date for
Out Run on the Nintendo Switch.
Keep an eye out as we announce more quality classic ports coming to Switch like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Out Run, Space Harrier, Columns II and Thunder Force AC, and of course, Phantasy Star.
Out Run will be available for the Nintendo Switch in 2019.
