The Nintendo Switch 2 leaks are coming in fast and furious. CES 2025 has provided us with plenty of juicy details and speculation about the highly anticipated console, while we wait for Nintendo to finally unveil it.
The latest leak comes from Universo Nintendo editor-in-chief ‘Necro’ Felipe Lima, who claims to have been sent a photo of the console from a "reliable source." The big reveal is the Nintendo Switch 2 logo, which he recreated and shared online.
If legitimate, the Switch 2 logo remains fairly similar in design to the current Switch console. The big difference is, of course, the giant "2". The image of the console's Joy-Con controllers is scooted over a bit to make room for the number, but other than that it looks pretty much the same as the current Switch logo. The word "Switch" does appear to be bolder lettering, although that could just be from his recreation.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is reportedly more of an iteration of the current Nintendo Switch. We can think of it as a "Pro" model. The concept of a hybrid console that you can play at home on your TV or bring with you to play on the go remains the core focus. The functionality will remain largely the same, although we can expect some new additions and features, like the mysterious new "C Button". Other than that, the biggest changes will likely be improved hardware which should make it able to run more third-party games, something Nintendo consoles often struggle to do.
Of course, that hasn't stopped the current Nintendo Switch from becoming one of the most successful systems of all time. With over 146 million units shipped worldwide, it is Nintendo's best-selling home console and the third-best-selling game console of all time. But if the Switch 2 is more of a hardware upgrade and less of a "new" concept, will people be in a rush to buy it?
Nintendo is expected to announce the Nintendo Switch 2 at some point this month, so it hopefully won't be long before we see the actual logo revealed. In the meantime, we'll continue to keep an eye out for leaks and rumors stemming from CES. One of the big ones to come out of the trade show was the reported launch date.
According to peripheral maker Genki, the Switch 2 will launch in April. This does align with Nintendo's own timeline to unveil the console before the end of its fiscal year, which ends in March 2025.
