Well, this is some rather interesting news, as it has been reported that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe—for the Nintendo Switch—has managed to sell more copies in 2018 than it ever did in 2017; which is the year the game actually launched.

While it is true that Mario Kart 8 is not a Nintendo Switch exclusive title, as it was originally released in 2014 for the failed Nintendo Wii U, it is one of the most popular games on Nintendo's handheld hybrid console. In fact, back in November we reported that Super Mario Odyssey had sold half a million boxed copies in the United Kingdom; with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe closely trailing it.

Today, GamesIndustry publisher Christopher Dring shared that they will be revealing the UK's Top 20 best-selling boxed games of 2018, and he teased us by also revealing that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sales in 2018 exceeded those in 2017. While he obviously didn't share any numbers for that, he probably will in tomorrow's official list, so we should be eagerly expecting it to see how well other games did in 2018.

Hit the road with the definitive version of Mario Kart 8 and play anytime, anywhere! Race your friends or battle them in a revised battle mode on new and returning battle courses.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is currently available for the Nintendo Switch.
