The Nintendo Switch 2, or whatever the Nintendo's successor to the current Nintendo Switch model will be called, is not expected to arrive before April 2025. The latest launch window comes via journalist Christopher Dring who, while appearing the GI Podcast, cited his conversations with a number of developers.

"No developer I have spoken to expects it to launch in this financial year. In fact, they've been told not to expect it in this financial year," Dring revealed. "A bunch of people I spoke to hope it's out in April/May."

Nintendo's current fiscal year ends on March 31, 2025. So if the developers are right, then that would mean the earliest we could expect the Nintendo Switch 2 to release would be April or May 2025.

The Nintendo Switch 2's release has been a hot topic of conversation as many fans are eager to see what Nintendo has planned next. There have been rumors regarding the console's release swirling for quite a while now. The Switch 2 was previously expected to be out by the end of 2024, only for it to reportedly be pushed back to early 2025.

While Nintendo has not announced any specifics regarding the next console, the company did confirm that it will reveal the Nintendo Switch 2 by the end of this fiscal year. The new console is reportedly similar to the original Nintendo Switch, though hopefully more powerful than the current system specs.

The original Nintendo Switch launched in 2017. There have been various versions of the console released since then, including a mobile-focused Switch Lite, and the more recent Switch OLED.

Although the Nintendo Switch was revolutionary in its design -- giving gamers the ability to play games on the television or take it with them on the go -- and the inclusion of its detachable controllers for easy local co-op, one of its criticisms has been a lack of power compared to its competitors. But what the Switch lacks in power compared to the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo makes up for with its award-winning, critically acclaimed catalog of exclusive games.

With over 143 million units sold worldwide as of June 24, the Switch is Nintendo's best-selling home console. It's the third-best-selling game console of all time, behind only the PlayStation 2 and Nintendo DS. The console's success has largely been tied to Nintendo's first party games, which include The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, and more.

It's believed that the upcoming Switch model will use Nvidia's custom variant T239 processor, which is capable of running Death Stranding at 1080p while maintaining 35 frames per second.

What are you hoping to see from the Nintendo Switch 2 when revealed?
