Elden Ring Nightreign is a multiplayer action-adventure that features three-player co-op in a roguelike-type environment. The game is designed for parties of three, but can be played solo; however, for some unknown reason, FromSoftware chose not to support two-player parties. At least not at launch.

Although game director Junya Ishizaki has promised to introduce two-player co-op in a post-launch update, it's unclear when exactly it will be ready. So one modder has taken matters into his own hands.

Yui, the person responsible for developing a mod to enable seamless co-op in the original Elden Ring, has set their sights on Elden Ring Nightreign. Not even 24 hours after the game's launch, they've already released a seamless two-player co-op mod for Nightreign.

Yui initially shared a short video on YouTube demonstrating seamless two-player co-op gameplay in Elden Ring Nightreign. Not long after, they released the mod.

Available right now on NexusMods, the seamless co-op mod for Elden Ring Nightreign includes two- and three-player lobbies. Because it prevents you from connecting to FromSoftware's matchmaking servers, it also supports mod compatibility. In a post on their Patreon, Yui also noted that there's "potential for a player cap increase in the future," which suggests we could even get four-player support.

Developer FromSoftware never seemed opposed to co-op multiplayer modes in Elden Ring, so this feels like a safe temporary solution while they develop official support for two-player co-op in Nightreign. There do appear to be some kinks to work out with the mod, but it's a pretty active community, should you run into any problems with it.

Again, we're not sure how long FromSoftware will take to release an official duo option in matchmaking. Prior to the game's release, director Junya Ishizaki only suggested that they are "looking at and considering for post launch support."

Despite the lack of two-player co-op, Elden Ring Nightreign is off to a tremendous start. Publisher Bandai Namco revealed that pre-orders and early sales have already pushed the game beyond two million units. It's a number that will almost certainly continue to grow in the days ahead.

Elden Ring Nightreign is a standalone multiplayer adventure set in the world of Limveld, a new land in the Elden Ring universe. Described as a "condensed action RPG," players embark on expeditions where they must survive a three-day-and-night cycle with increasingly challenging progression. As a roguelike set in a procedurally generated land, no two journeys are the same and any upgrades or weapons you collect do not carry over into the next run; however, any relics you find do help you grow stronger for your next attempt.

In ELDEN RING Nightreign is unlike any experience created before by FromSoftware, Inc., as a condensed action RPG where players never experience the same journey twice, and the game environment itself is ever-shifting and evolving with each new session. In the game, players choose from one of eight unique Nightfarers, each with its own unique weapons and abilities, and must make split-second decisions about combat and exploration across a map that can fluctuate with different biomes, weapons, and enemies. Each session demands that they stay adept at thinking on their feet as the encircling Night’s Tide forces them into different scenarios with each expedition – just a hair’s breadth can separate a victorious run from crushing defeat. Surviving each day and outrunning the encroaching circle of fire pits players against terrifying bosses from ELDEN RING and other FromSoftware titles. On the third day, they must take on one of the game’s Nightlords – new, never-before-seen bosses with a new set of challenges to overcome. Nightfarers must learn to cooperate to take down these challenges, combining their unique abilities together for an unparalleled experience in the ELDEN RING universe. All is not lost for those who fall in defeat. Unsuccessful runs will grant players relics to allow them to customize and upgrade their characters tailored to their personal play styles. Players can also discover new narratives in this parallel universe as they unravel the story behind each mysterious Nightfarer.

Elden Ring Nightreign is available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
