The Nintendo Switch is getting ready to receive the highly anticipated
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate this December. Being
Super Smash Bros. one of their most popular IPs, and being Smash Bros. Melee the most competitive, and popular game in the series—so far—
Nintendo has decided to re-release their extremely comfortable, almost tailor-made for Smash Bros. Gamecube controller.
The GameCube controller that Nintendo is releasing for
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an almost carbon copy of the original controller that came out with the GameCube back in the early 2000s, which is perfect for gamers who want the same feel when battling it out in
Smash Ultimate. While there is nothing intrinsically wrong with re-releasing the exact same controller, it is also nice to see that third-party manufacturers also want in on the
Super Smash Bros. hype and are releasing their own versions of these controllers.
Performance Designed Products have recently announced that they will be releasing GameCube controllers for the Nintendo Switch. These controllers are themed after
Super Mario Bros.,
The Legend of Zelda, and the
Pokémon series, each showing off the colours that are most representative of the characters they're inspired by. In this case, red with the M logo for Mario, blue alluding to Link's new Champion's tunic and the Hyliand Shield, and yellow for
Pokémon's most popular character Pikachu.
Another interesting detail is that the C-Stick is completely detachable, allowing players to switch to a more traditional analog stick—perfect to perform those Smash Attacks with ease. Another difference with the traditional GameCube controller is that the PDP version will include all 4 should buttons that the Switch features: ZL,L, ZR, and R. The original GameCube controller only featured three shoulder buttons: L, R, and Z.
While PDP has not revealed when these GameCube controller will be available, it is safe to assume they will launch around the same time
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate comes out—much like Nintendo's very own version of the controller.
