This week's Nintendo Direct was filled with exciting announcements and reveals, including the next installment in the long-running Mario Party franchise.
Billed as the "biggest Mario Party yet," Super Mario Party Jamboree takes players to an enormous island resort featuring over 110 minigames, seven game boards (five new and two returning), and a new 20-player head-to-head online mode.
"Explore five new game boards: ride the escalators in Rainbow Galleria, stay on track in Roll ’em Raceway and mix things up with an active volcano in Goomba Lagoon, just to name a few," Nintendo wrote in a press release.
Rainbow Galleria is a bright and colorful shopping center. Players can use in-game coins to get a star a half price when they're on flash sale.
Roll 'em Raceway looks like a Mario Kart-inspired game board. This features a new turbo dice item that allows players to move up to 40 spaces with a lucky roll.
At Goomba Lagoon, the flow of the tide can change your path. The board also has a volcano that, when it erupts, can "mix things up."
The trailer also revealed the other new game boards — Mega Wiggler's Tree Party and King Bowser's Keep — although the details remain a mystery. In addition to the five new game boards, two game boards from previous Mario Party games are returning: Mario's Rainbow Castle and Western Land.
With over 110 minigames, players can experience a variety of fun and excitement, from action-packed challenges to puzzles that test your wits to games that feature motion controls.
New to the franchise is Koopathlon mode where up to 20 players can compete head-to-head online.
Super Mario Party Jamboree will be released for the Nintendo Switch on October 17th. It's the second Mary Party game to be released for the console and the first new game in the series since 2018's Super Mario Party.
Super Mario Party Jamboree wasn't the only Mario game announced. We're also getting a new RPG adventure, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, which launches on Nintendo Switch on November 7. The newest entry in the series sees the two brothers set sail on Shipshape Island to navigate the vast world of Concordia.
Other exciting announcements featured during the Nintendo Direct presentation include Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, which was first announced back in 2017, and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, which will finally let you play as Princess Zelda for the first time ever in the franchise.
