Nintendo's long-awaited
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has finally become available today for the Nintendo Switch, bringing fans the most ambitious crossover in the history of the
Super Smash Bros. series; featuring characters from renowned franchises such as
Castlevania,
Final Fantasy,
Metal Gear Solid,
Street Fighter and many, many more.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, alongside Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee! were Nintendo's heavy hitters in their lineup of games for this year; with Pokémon Let's Go breaking all kinds of sales records worldwide, it was only a matter of time until
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate did the same for the Japanese company.
A new report reveals that, according to Amazon,
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the best-selling video game in all of 2018, managing to outsell PlayStation Store Giftcards; which, in and of itself, is quite an impressive feat. While Amazon hardly represents the video game industry in terms of sales, it is still fascinating to see how well the game is doing not 24 hours after its official release.
We'll likely get some official sales numbers for
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate very soon, though, especially with the Holidays just around the corner. What seemed to have been a rather slow year for Nintendo, in comparison to last year's unmitigated success thanks to
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and
Super Mario Odyssey, but Nintendo has been playing their cards right and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate seems to be on track to become one of Nintendo's best-selling titles this year.
