After last year's brilliant lineup of first-party games for the Switch——which included
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and
Super Mario Odyssey—it seemed that Nintendo was slowly losing that first-year-momentum as there weren't that many heavy-hitters for this year's lineup.
The two games that could've been considered heavy-hitters this year were
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee! and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and even then
Pokémon Let's Go's reception was very mixed upon being announced. Luckily for Nintendo,
Pokémon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee! have managed to exceed all expectations by selling an impressive 3 million copies within its first week since launch.
Super Smash Bros. games have always been console-sellers, and
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has proven to not only be doing that, but Nintendo confirms that the game has also managed to become the best pre-selling title in the series' history since the original game came out in 1999.
Not only is
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate the best pre-selling title in the series, but it is now also the best pre-selling title available on the Nintendo Switch, beating out
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and
Super Mario Odyssey; which in and of itself is quite an impressive feat.
The news comes from the official Nintendo Versus Twitter account, which posted a new video thanking fans for their amazing support, as well as sharing a short trailer with opinions about
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate by video game media outlets. Our hats are off to you, Nintendo.
