Earlier today, Nintendo surprised us all by announcing Paper Mario: The Origami King — a brand-new entry in the beloved role-playing series developed by Intelligent Systems — and that the game will be releasing exclusively for the Nintendo Switch in July of this year.
A new entry in the Paper Mario series had been rumoured for a while, so it was a nice surprise to see that the rumours that claimed this new game was indeed a thing were true. The rumours didn't only reveal that a new Paper Mario game was in the works, since a collection of all 3D Super Mario games were allegedly also being developed by Nintendo.
According to VentureBeat's Jeff Grubb, Paper Mario: The Origami King is only one of the games that have been officially confirmed by Nintendo, and he doubles down on the claim that the collection that includes Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, and both entries in the Super Mario Galaxy series are yet to be announced.
He doesn't stop there, as he also reveals that a deluxe edition of the Wii U's Pikmin 3 will also be announced by Nintendo at some point. Of all the rumoured games, this is the one that would be more plausible to be announced, since Nintendo has been porting Nintendo Wii U titles to the Switch.
The fact that Paper Mario: The Origami King was actually in development, and the rumours were right, give players hope that that mega collection of 3D Super Mario games is also being developed at Nintendo, and that Pikmin 3: Deluxe — a game criminally overlooked — would also be currently in the works.
