Earlier this month, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released to a ton of praise after plenty of time in the oven. Now, word comes out that the game's producer Eiji Aonuma and director Hidemaro Fujibayashi are both interested in seeing a film based on this wildly popular IP.
During a recent interview, the pair expressed interest in such a project, especially considering the massive success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie was in the box office. Of course, Aonuma was quick to mention that it will, unfortunately, take more than just him and his Tears of the Kingdom director confidant to get the ball rolling.
Fujibayashi, on the other hand, added a possible glimmer of hope that Nintendo maybe -- key word maybe -- would listen to fans sharing an interest in such a movie. That said, fans shouldn't be too surprised if Nintendo sees such a film as off the table, considering Zelda's rocky history with its 1989 TV series and canceled film.
On the other hand, with the enormous success of the Mario movie, marking itself in history as the 10th animated film to cross a billion at the box office, Nintendo might be more willing to let Link venture into the silver screen for the first time since 1989.
