Since Nintendo surprised everyone by revealing that
Final Fantasy VII's Cloud would be joining the roster in
Super Smash Bros. 3DS/Wii U, fans have been wondering whether other popular Square Enix characters could be showing up in Nintendo's popular crossover fighting series; more in particular,
Kingdom Hearts series' Sora.
When it was revealed that Cloud was also making a comeback in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, as the game features every character in
Super Smash Bros. history —
Kingdom Hearts fans, once again, wondered if Sora could eventually be joining the game's roster. So far, however,
Final Fantasy VII's Cloud and
Dragon Quest series' The Hero are the only Square Enix characters in the game.
As it turns out, rumour has it that Nintendo did approach Disney to ask them if they could add Sora in
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate; a request that Disney, sadly, opted to decline. This information comes from a recent
Kinda Funny Games episode, in which Senior Editor at Game Informer Imran Khan briefly commented on the topic.
According to Khan, "
They absolutely approached Disney about [getting Sora into Smash Bros.] once." When asked if it was Disney the one that declined Nintendo's request to add Sora, Khan replied with a resounding yes; adding that it was "
Disney Japan specifically."

Kingdom Hearts,
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Disney declining Nintendo's request.
