When Capcom announced
Mega Man 11 during the Mega Man 30th Anniversary celebration stream in December of 2017, a lot of people were excited but still had their reservations given Capcom's history of cancelling
Mega Man-related projects in the past.
Mega Man 11 was finally released in October of this year, getting praise from critics and players alike for bringing back the series back to its former glory. Because of the positive reception the game had, fans have begun wondering if Capcom could do the same for the
Mega Man X series; especially since the game has been
teased by the developer quite a bit over the course of the year.
New information has recently surfaced online, possibly hinting that a new
Mega Man title could already be in the works or in some very early stages of development. In a recent issue of 4Gamer,
Mega Man 11 producer Kazuhiro Tsuchiya reveals that he and his development team are already preparing for their big next project.
"
In 2018, we were able to safely release Mega Man 11. This is also a thank-you to all of the game fans. In 2019, I would like to make steady preparations for what’s next, so there may not be any major action, but I hope you can all watch over me with warm eyes…!"
While this is in no way confirmation that a specific
Mega Man 11 sequel is in the works, chances are that the next title the team will be working on next year is
Mega Man X9. With the release of
Mega Man Legacy Collection 1 & 2, as well as
Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1 & 2 plus
Mega Man 11, Capcom has realised that there is still interest in the
Mega Man series, so all we have to do now is keep our fingers crossed and wait for that inevitable
Mega Man X9 announcement in the coming months.
Mega Man is back! The newest entry in this iconic series blends classic, challenging 2D platforming action with a fresh new visual style. The new Double Gear system boosts Mega Man's speed and power for a new twist to the satisfying gameplay the series is known for.
Mega Man 11 is currently available on the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam.
