SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE Will Have "Friendlier" Tutorials
Developer From Software's upcoming action-adventure video game, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, will feature "friendlier" tutorials. Here are the details on the new system the project is adapting.
The upcoming action adventure game by From Software, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, has already been reported to be twice as hard as their previous titles. However, this boost in difficulty brings with itself a "friendlier" tutorial, a way for players to get in the groove and grasp the hardcore action.
Sekiro's lead game designer, Masaru Yamamura, sat down with Gaming Informer and explained the tutorial system in a more detailed way. “We’re actually being very friendly with out tutorials this time. Probably more so than you’re used to with our previous titles.”
“Initially, it was a piece of advice from Activision, to go friendlier on the tutorials side. But as we began creating the game, we realized the tutorial is not necessarily for teaching the game and the mechanics, but for conveying the appeal of the game. Particularly to players who are used to our previous titles- these people would play [Sekiro] and not really get it, and not really understand that appeal, and try and play it from a Dark Souls or a Bloodborne perspective. And so in the end, it was really us going to Activision and saying, ‘we need to teach this a little bit more here, and we need to be a little bit friendlier here.'”
As you can see, From Software reached out to Activision and asked about tutorials. From what we can tell by the interview, their tutorial system is not just going to teach new players the mechanics of the game, it will try to make the player enjoy the system and gameplay.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, with musical composing from Yuka Kitamura and Activision serving as its publisher. The game will be hitting the PS4, Xbox One and PC on March 22 and features single-player gameplay only. The game follows a shinobi named Sekiro as he takes revenge on a samurai who kidnapped his lord.
In Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice you are the “one-armed wolf”, a disgraced and disfigured warrior rescued from the brink of death. Bound to protect a young lord who is the descendant of an ancient bloodline, you become the target of many vicious enemies, including the dangerous Ashina clan. When the young lord is captured, nothing will stop you on a perilous quest to regain your honor, not even death itself.
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will launch on March 22, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC
