For as long as gaming has been around, simulators have made up a large percentage of the medium. With titles as classic as Flight Simulator, to the more outlandish titles like Goat Simulator, anyone can be or control anything!

The RPG gaming genre is not the first thing that comes to mind when playing a simulator game, but Kabam Games has been using that to their advantage on the Steam website. No matter what franchise or game someone searches for, there is most likely a town or home builder type of sim title. Kabam games, however, knows that when playing in a field of similar stars, the best way to stay on top is to innovate.

Shop Titans is the RPG building sim from Kabam Games that has broken the mold with its in-depth systems and character customization. The game released on Steam, and since its introduction has been receiving vast amounts of positive player feedback. We managed to catch up with Associate Game Designer at Kabam, Frédérik Laporte-Morais, to see what he had to say about the game and the Tower of Titans update. Check it out below!

Nick: I understand that you looked to Dragon Quest for inspiration on the art in Shop Titans. Are there any characters in the series that you pulled more inspiration from?

Frédérik Laporte-Morais: We were inspired by Dragon Quest's great blend of humor and classic RPG elements in their visual design. We loved the character Jade’s energy and attitude! When creating Maya and Naya, the two sisters who run the town's tavern and host the fortune zone respectively, we drew inspiration from that Dragon Quest’s character specifically.

Nick: The Tower of Titans has been a wild event. Can you go into details for potential players on how exactly the Tower differs from normal quests and battles?

Frédérik Laporte-Morais: Players experience brand new strategies and mechanics as they scale 30 floors of the tower. Each floor is tougher than the last, including numerous monsters with random abilities and boss encounters. Players who take part in the challenge will receive amazing new rewards such as Skill Reroll Dice and Titan’s Soul that upgrades your Heroes Class.

Nick: How long has the Tower of Titans been in the works, and what were the biggest challenges when it came to implementing it into the game.

Frédérik Laporte-Morais: Tower of Titans has been in development for about a year. Our goal was to balance the content so that existing players felt challenged while appealing to new players as well. We believe we hit that sweet spot and hope all players enjoy the content as much as we do.

Nick: How have fans responded to the recent pet update?

Frédérik Laporte-Morais: Player feedback has been great! We love reading the community’s feedback on this new addition to the game and hope we can keep adding fun and exciting content for years to come. We have other pet surprises updates for later this year like new skins and a new pet type to be introduced.

Nick: Can you tease anything to come for the future of Shop Titans?

Frédérik Laporte-Morais: We have several planned content updates scheduled for release this year like a new champion and an event around crafting. We look forward to sharing more details with everyone soon.
