Netmarble's StoneAge World invites players of the mobile game to make prehistory. Borrowing elements from hit monster trainer games like Pokémon and other monster based games like Monster Hunter and Yo-Kai Watch, StoneAge World allows players to collect many creatures of the prehistoric era to train and use to protect the land.

Netmarble is no stranger to releasing hit mobile games, with their library including games like MARVEL: Future Fight and Magic The Gathering: Manastrike. StoneAge World is no different with incredibly positive reviews upon release. The game stays fresh by implementing MMORPG elements to allow a more social aspect to the mobile game.

Many factors went into bringing this game to life, and many people helped to make the game the hit that it is. Thankfully we were able to catch up with Team Development lead Woonki Min to tell us more about how the game has been faring, and a behind the scenes look at how the development of the game typically goes!

Make sure to check out the interview below and don't forget to share your thoughts in the usual spot! Also, don't forget to check out the trailer for the game for a glimpse at what it's like!

Nick: The art style is adorable! Did you look to anything specific for the base inspiration of the designs?

Woonki Min: StoneAge World was developed based on the original PC game and its mobile iterations, StoneAge Mobile and StoneAge Begins. Using the Unity Engine, we were able to create high-quality, 3D graphics on mobile platforms. We primarily focused on enhancing StoneAge's original characters and pets with the latest graphic technology.

Nick: How did the idea originally come about to make this game? Was it initially a pet-collector RPG that became an MMO or the other way around? Or both from the jump?

Woonki Min: Netmarble is always looking for innovative ways to bring fun to players. The original game was an MMO RPG but we wanted to add a new element and the pet collection seemed like a natural fit for this game and it adds an additional layer of competitive entertainment.

Nick: Can you share anything with us about some of the pet designs that didn't make it into the game but almost did?

Woonki Min: StoneAge World is based on our StoneAge IP, so all the pets are from the original game as well. We can’t specify the names of certain pet designs but all of the pets were decided after careful consideration. We are planning to update the game with new pets in the near future and hope players enjoy cute and unique pet designs that can be only found at StoneAge World.

Nick: I know the game just came out but are there any plans to release more characters down the line?

Woonki Min:  We had our first update this week. We typically maintain a regular cadence of updates to keep our games fresh and exciting. At the moment, there are 41 types and 250 pets updated in the game. New pets will be updated continuously, and we hope that players will enjoy collecting and growing those pets. Please stay tuned!

Nick: Which of Netmarble's previous games helped prepare the team most for the challenges met with making an MMORPG?

Woonki Min: Netmarble has always been a leader in mobile MMORPGs. From our hit titles, Lineage 2: Revolution to the recently announced MARVEL Future Revolution, we have proven we understand the space and we continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in mobile gaming. Just like other Netmarble MMORPGs, we hope that StoneAge World will be loved globally and we will do our best to bring the best service and content to players.

StoneAge World takes the concept of pet-collection and role-playing game (RPG) mechanics and seamlessly blends them together with a delightful and venturesome MMO experience set in a whimsically inspired take on prehistoric societies.

Set in the land of Tectonika, players will embrace the role of “Trainer,” a powerful warrior who collects, tames, and trains pets to protect the land from enemies. With over 250 pets including dinosaurs, wooly mammoths, pigs, wolves and more, players will have their hands full defending Tectonika against unknown enemies from the up-and-coming Machine Civilization and exploring the unique quirks of prehistoric society.

StoneAge World is now available to download on the App Store and Google Play.
