The Atari VCS—formerly known as the Ataribox—has just become available for pre-orders and, in order to let people know what the product is actually capable of, Atari have released a video that tells us everything we want to know. First things first, the Atari VCS is expected to begin shipping in
July of 2019 so there is still some time left before fans are able to get their hands on this console.
One of the things that is so special about the Atari VCS is that it doesn't only cater to the demographic of players that grew up with the system as it will be able to play current games, as well. Thanks to its PC architecture and Linux Operating System, the VCS can not only play hundreds of Atari classic games but also modern games, as well as being able to connect to social media, play music, and even stream videos.
The Atari VCS is
available for pre-orders at Indiegogo right now and the site even offers a Collector's Edition. The Atari VCS Collector's Edition is a tribute to the original Atari 2600 and each unit will feature a unique numbering on the back, matching certificate of authenticity, and that classic inlaid wood panel Atari consoles used to feature. The Collector's Edition is on limited time and the deal expires on the
11th of June, or while they still have supplies. Unlike the Collector's Edition, The Atari VCS Onyx Edition will have a more sleek, and modern look with a glossy blacked-out face.
Atari® returns to the living room with a retro-inspired, completely modern video computer system. New and classic games meet streaming media and a universe of web-powered entertainment on Atari’s first-ever connected home platform. Atari VCS™ delivers unprecedented levels of flexibility and control that will help transform how we Interact with our TV’s, just as the original Atari 2600 did four decades ago.
