Atari Has Renewed The ALONE IN THE DARK Trademark But You Shouldn't Expect To Play A Continuation Anytime Soon

It looks like Atari is not giving up on Alone in the Dark, even after Illumination that has crashed and burned, but you shouldn't expect to play the next chapter of Edward Carnby's horror story anytime soon...

The very first Alone in the Dark was released in 1992 and is remembered as the "First Ever 3D Survival Horror Game" in the Guinness World Records Gamer's Edition. The survival horror gave players a chance to control private investigator Edward Carnby, who goes to investigate a haunted mansion and a town that is full of undead creatures. I would like to remind you that Resident Evil launched in 1996.

After many years of better (Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare), worse (Eden Games' reboot) and absolutely terrible (Illumination) games and one adaptation starring Christian Slater (don't ask me how [and why]) directed by Uwe Boll, the franchise was rightfully forgotten. Well, until today, as it looks like Atari has renewed the Alone in the Dark trademark, according to, well, Trademarkia.

At the moment the details are practically non-existent and the document does not mention a video game, but the content of entertainment related to films and TV series. There's still a small chance that Atari will try to reboot the series and will actually put some effort in making it this time, but it's clear that the publisher is not interested in continuing the series in the video game form anymore.
