It Seems That A Remake For The First Three TOMB RAIDER Games Was A Thing At One Point

A remaster of the first 3 Tomb Raider games was, apparently, a thing at one point but it has now been cancelled as the developer shares some new information on social media.

The Tomb Raider series has been around for quite some time now. Since its debut in 1996 the franchise saw the first three games remastered on the PlayStation 3 with Tomb Raider Trilogy HD, releasing back in 2011.

The latest remaster would have seen treasure hunter Lara Croft make a return for Realtech VR's remaster of the first three games titled Tomb Raider 1+2+3. The remaster was announced, very low-key, earlier this month via Realtech VR's Twitter account and would've been released for PC. Steam users that owned the DOS version of the game would've been able to download Tomb Raider 1+2+3 for free.

GameInformer reports that the game is no longer being made as the developer tweeted a post sharing the state of the project but the tweet has since been deleted. Later on, Realtech VR officialy tweeted about their new projects and mentioned they are no longer committed to third-party licensing and that they will be focusing on their own projects from now on.

It's hard to say what was it that caused the project's cancellation but the fact that most people are just now finding out that the project even existed was objectively a bad sign. Regardless of the reason, it is a shame that Tomb Raider 1+2+3 won't be seeing the light of day any time soon.
