With the Closed Alpha Test of Marvel Rivals arriving this week, NetEase has shared a new trailer showcasing one of the game's maps.
NetEase posted a quick walkthrough of the map Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya, which is one of the three maps — alongside Yggsgard: Yggdrasill Path and Yggsgard: Royal Palace — that will be featured in the upcoming Closed Alpha Test.
Naturally, players started drawing comparisons to certain maps featured in Overwatch, such as Lijiang Tower and Hanamura. The comparisons aren't totally unexpected though, as the core concept of Marvel Rivals has been compared to Blizzard's team-based shooter since it was first revealed.
Like Overwatch, Marvel Rivals is a team-based online PvP shooter that pits two teams of six heroes (or villains) against each other in various gameplay modes. Marvel Rivals features a playable roster of characters drawn from all corners of the Marvel multiverse, including the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, X-Men and more.
Combat is set across various maps inspired by iconic Marvel worlds and features destructible environments. As players engage in superpowered combat, their abilities will alter the environments and reshape the terrain, allowing them to craft a strategic advantage on the battlefield.
We don't quite see the environmental destruction capable on the map Tokyo 2099: Shin-Shibuya in the video above, but it probably won't be long before we learn more. It is one of the three maps featured in the Closed Alpha Test that will take place next week.
As NetEase previously confirmed, the Marvel Rivals closed Alpha Test will begin on Friday, May 10th at 5:00 p.m. PDT. It is scheduled to run until May 20th, at 11:59 p.m. PDT.
For this first test, NetEase is limiting the number of invites to just 30,000 players from only the United States and Canada.
The merciless clash between tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises unknown.
Now, Super Heroes and Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups each seek to best both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!
At this point, Marvel Rivals has only been announced for release on PC. However, it's been speculated that it could eventually come to additional platforms such as Xbox, PlayStation, and possibly Nintendo Switch in the future.
