Warner Bros. and New Line announced today that Rampage will be released in 3D and IMAX on April 20th, 2018. The movie will adapt the popular 1980s video game, with Ryan Engle set to pen the screenplay and San Andreas director Brad Peyton at the helm. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is going to reunite with the latter for the movie, and his presence already has many assuming this will be a hit.
That's highly likely, but whether or not it will break the video game movie curse is another matter altogether (Assassin's Creed could beat them to it). Peyton and Johnson also worked together on Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, and their collaborations have so far grossed over $800 million at the worldwide box office. Plot details are being kept a secret, but in the game, players had to stop a giant gorilla, lizard, and wolf as they make their way across America causing all sorts of destruction.
That’s right, The Rock is potentially going to star in a movie where he fights a giant freaking Gorilla!
Expect more details on Rampage to be revealed as pre-production kicks off at some point next year.
