Cuphead was originally scheduled to be released before the end of 2016 but indie publisher Studio MDHR has announced [via their blog] that realistically, it won't be released until Mid-2017, at the earliest. Chad Moldenhauer, who heads up MDHR with his brother Jared, stated, "
Throughout this year we discussed reducing the scope to make a 2016 release, but we made the difficult decision to delay the launch in order to ship with our vision intact. We are happy to announce that Cuphead will be coming to Xbox One, Windows 10 and Steam in Mid-2017."
As expected, fans aren't happy about the delay but certainly understand that it's better to wait than receive a broken game or a product that doesn't deliver as advertised (looking at you No Man's Sky).
The "run and gun" platform game channels a mixture of Mega Man and Contra in a style that pays homage to the Max Fleischer cartoons from the '30s.
Studio MDHR began working on the game in 2010 and delivered a non-playable demo at E3 2014. Since that initial footage, Cuphead has been one of the most highly-anticipated games among the Steam/Indie community.
