Back in December of last year, Riot Games announced plans to expand the League of Legends universe to other genres and platforms. One of those spinoffs was Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a single-player, turn-based RPG set in the LoL universe.
Riot wasn't ready to talk much in detail about its new games, releasing only a brief teaser trailer at the time. However, today during the 2020 World Championship finals, Riot Forge announced that Ruined King: A League of Legends Story will head to PC and current-gen systems (PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Steam and the Epic Games Store). Riot also confirmed that the game will be making its way to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S "soon thereafter." Those who buy the game on current-gen systems will be able to upgrade to the next-gen version for free.
Riot shared a new cinematic trailer for Ruined King, highlighting the five main champions -- Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri and Pike -- who will form the unlikely party to defeat the mysterious enemy.
From Airship Syndicate comes Ruined King: A League of Legends Story, a single-player turn-based RPG featuring the baddest of Bilgewater. Play as Miss Fortune, Illaoi, Braum, Yasuo, Ahri, or Pyke and journey bravely into the ever-creeping Black Mist. Coming to console and PC early 2021.
Ruined King: A League of Legends Story is being developed by Airship Syndicate, creators of Battle Chasers: Nightwar and Darksiders Genesis. It's being led by legendary comic book artist Joe Madureira whose art is in full display in the trailer above.
"Ruined King is a great way to expand the world of Runeterra for brand new players as well as our dedicated League of Legends (LoL) fans,” said Leanne Loombe, Head of Riot Forge at Riot Games. “Ruined King will be the first single-player game to bring the LoL universe to both consoles and PC. We are excited to take this plunge into exploring stories and champions that players have enjoyed over the years, and can’t wait for our players to embark on this new adventure with us."
Ruined King is the first game to be published under the Riot Forge banner. It's one of two currently in development, the other being the action platformer CONV/RGENCE: A League of Legends Story.
