RED DEAD REDEMPTION Rip-Off WILD WEST ONLINE Is One Of The Worst Reviewed Games Of The Year

Wild West Online, a game "strongly" inspired by Rocktar's juggernaut turns out to be one of the worst reviewed of the season, and also one of the poorest attempts at recreating the magic of Red Dead Redemption.

Wild West Online officially launched roughly a month ago but hardly anyone cared enough to check the MMO out, so it shouldn't be surprising that it's quite difficult to find any reviews for the latest DJ2 Entertainment project strongly inspired by Red Dead Redemption. The team did such a good job confusing players that even last year's supposed leaked screenshot from Red Dead Redemption 2 turned out to be just an image from Wild West Online.

With only 6 reviews on Metacritic, Wild West Online currently sits at an amazing 29%. This fantastic score will surely allow this ambitious and original project to compete with other fan-favorite games such as Road Rage (26%), Troll and I (39%), and maybe even Vroom in the Night Sky (17%).

Thanks to literally no content, awful graphics, very basic character customization, small map, being a fully released game in the early access form, and the price of $39.99, the Red Dead Redemption 2 team should be more than afraid - it looks like the western genre might have a brand new leader.

An empty world, without story, repetitive and full of microtransactions. Unless you really, really love the setting and you are looking for this exact concept to play with friends, there is no reason to play this game.
Wild West Online will not quench your thirst; on the contrary, it will have the effect of a spoonful of salt in the middle of a scorching desert.

I don’t know how the game has gotten to this point, but essentially it really feels like someone’s pushed the game, turned it into a pay-to-win grief-fest, and hoped to recoup some of the losses from the game’s production. The sad thing is, I’m sure there are good people who really do need to make money back. But I’m also sure you should stay away from this game with extreme prejudice. Frankly, I’ll be surprised if it lasts out the year, if that; which is a mighty shame for a game that seemed like it had so much promise.

Wild West Online is a framework for a potentially interesting PvP MMO, and nothing more. It needs so much more work and that they are selling this for £30 is outrageous. From performance to content, and from the leveling scale to the reliance on microtransactions someone in developers WWO Partners should have realised that this wasn’t ready to go. Hold off on buying this game to see if they add in more things to do, because right now this is a raw egg being sold as an omlette.

Wild West Online isn't a real game.

In its latest update (22nd May, at the time of writing), the development team has outlined plans and promises for the game, including better matchmaking balancing (there are plans for a novice servers for players up to level 20), a redesigned shooter wheel and hot bar, a better rewards system and economy, and a new - and desperately needed - trading system for players. Factions will be removed, and the current PvP events - town captures, relic hunts etc. - will instead see the Sheriffs fight the Outlaws rather than the current MacFarlane and Steele Industries battles. And it's great, seeing the team continue to seek improvements, but so much of this feels too little too late. Maybe you'll come back to Wild West Online in six months time and it'll be unrecognisable, stuffed with creative quests and engaging PvP - and PvE - events. For now, however, it feels as though Wild West Online has been pulled out of the oven several months too soon, and remains desperately bereft of content. But who has the time - and money - to invest so heavily in an empty MMO in the hope it'll improve eventually?

Wild West Online is a PVP ACTION MMO game where you duke it out with other players in a persistent PVP combat world. It is not a story-driven MMO isn't a story-driven MMO with deep narrative and AI opponents to solo-grind. Outside WWO's towns, unrestricted combat is allowed and the game's ongoing faction war rules the range. Core events are timed, loot-centric PVP showdowns. Again, this is a multiplayer combat MMO with PVE elements intended to enhance that experience: social roleplaying, farming, mining, crafting, homesteading and quests.
