A new studio made up of veteran developers from some of gaming’s biggest names has just stepped into the spotlight. Wayfinder Studios today officially unveiled Wyldheart, a charming rustic fantasy co-op action RPG that aims to capture the feeling of playing tabletop campaigns with friends, but in a fully realized 3D world.

Built by a small team of ex-AAA talent, Wyldheart looks to stand out in the crowded fantasy genre by focusing on friendship, exploration, and flexible storytelling rather than epic chosen-one narratives. Check out the reveal trailer below:

In Wyldheart, players step into the fallen Kingdom of Caerwyn, a beautifully handcrafted realm filled with mystery, danger, and everyday stories. You and up to three friends take on the role of ordinary adventurers whose fates are yet unwritten. There is no grand prophecy here. Instead, your party investigates rumors, explores forgotten ruins, and tackles threats as they arise through multiple campaigns.

Each campaign offers roughly 10 hours of main story content with an additional 15 hours of optional exploration and side activities. This structure makes Wyldheart particularly appealing for groups of friends who want satisfying progress even if they cannot always play together for long stretches.

The world itself feels alive. Local villagers follow daily schedules, have their own lives and stories, and offer quests that emerge naturally through eavesdropping, rumor hunting, and genuine exploration. Players can gather materials, craft equipment, cook meals for the party, and upgrade gear as they prepare for the next leg of their journey.

Character creation in Wyldheart emphasizes personal expression and replayability. Players can choose from distinct races including the proud Freefolk, small Mosslings, and towering Grimhorns, along with 19 different backgrounds that shape who their character is and where they come from.

Progression is completely classless. Players freely distribute points across five key pillars: Adventuring, Survival, Dungeoneering, Weaponry, and Magic. This system lets you build exactly the kind of hero you want, whether that is a stealthy scout, a heavy-hitting warrior, a scholarly mage, or any hybrid in between. The game encourages experimentation and growth across multiple campaigns.

One of Wyldheart’s biggest strengths appears to be its thoughtful approach to multiplayer. The game supports seamless drop-in and drop-out co-op for up to four players. Cloud-shared saves, shared group experience, and dynamic difficulty scaling ensure that nobody falls behind or feels left out when life gets in the way.

This focus on accessibility for busy gamers feels intentional. The developers specifically designed the game around the reality of modern scheduling, making it easier to enjoy a long-term campaign with friends even with irregular playtimes.

Wayfinder Studios brings impressive experience to this debut project. The studio was co-founded by Dennis Brännvall, former Creative Director of Star Wars Battlefront II, and Fia Tjernberg, previously Studio Director of Technical Design at EA DICE. They are joined by other veterans including Manne Ederyd and team members with backgrounds at Embark Studios and Mojang Studios.

Together, this group set out to create the kind of intimate, lore-rich co-op experience they always wanted to play. Their goal was to blend the magic of tabletop RPG sessions with modern, reliable multiplayer technology and beautiful handcrafted environments. The result is Wyldheart, a game that feels passionate about bringing players together in a shared fantasy world that values friendship and discovery over power fantasies.

From the early details, Wyldheart looks to offer a warm and inviting take on fantasy RPGs. The emphasis on cosy yet meaningful adventures, combined with strong co-op systems and deep character freedom, positions it as a potential standout for players tired of solo epics or overly competitive online experiences.

The game is currently in development for PC, with more platforms possibly to be announced later. While no exact release date has been shared yet, the team promises more updates and gameplay footage in the coming months.

For fans of games like Baldur’s Gate 3, Dragon Age, or even lighter co-op titles with deeper systems, Wyldheart is a game you should add to your watchlist. Its focus on creating memorable stories with friends in a living, breathing world feels refreshing in today’s gaming landscape.

If you have ever wished for a fantasy RPG that truly respects your time and celebrates playing together, Wyldheart may be exactly what you have been waiting for. Stay tuned for more details as development continues.
