Unholy was officially announced a week ago. The title is developed by new studio Duality Games and Tomasz Strzałkowski, who previously worked on
Painkiller, Bulletstorm, Gears of War, Godfire, and
Inner Chains. According to Duality Games,
Unholy's gameplay is a mix of horror and stealth game, in which each challenge can be overcome in several different, and mostly brutal, ways.
One could say that this description also fits
Agony, doesn't it? It's not the only thing the two titles have in common, as
Agony and
Unholy not only sound similar, but also share the same publisher, PlayWay. However, according to a Steam community posting from July, Madmind was also once listed as publisher. To clarify the complicated issue, Steam forum user and Madmind Studio representative Madm4n has revealed that "
Madmind is not involved in the production of Unholy. We do not have any rights to this brand nor to the duality studio managed by Tomasz Strzałkowski."
Madm4n has also explained that "
Madmind is listed as a publisher (on steam), mainly because thanks to that Unholy has a greater visibility – which works, of course, both ways." It sounds like PlayWay has a different perspective on the same the situation. The Techraptor crew recently received a message from PlayWay and the e-mail "
stated that before Agony’s premiere, Duality wanted Madmind as a publisher alongside PlayWay. However, after Agony’s mediocre scores, they decided to remove them. PlayWay is now the only publisher and they own a portion of Duality. The statement also made clear that both the teams and games are entirely different.”
The studios clearly know something about mental gymnastics and successfully managed to confuse potential customers.
Unholy has been in development since 2017 under the
Blood Child codename and will give you a chance to play as Saidah, a despaired mother in search of her abducted child. The title will also give you an opportunity to venture through morbid streets of the last city on a dying planet.
Become Saidah, a mother in search of her abducted child. Venture through morbid streets of the last city on a dying planet. Challenge a repressive regime under which your whole life is determined by which social caste you belong to. Save your child and find out if escape is possible.
Unholy is coming to PC in 2019.
