Total War: Three Kingdoms' release date has been moved yet again, this time from March 7th to May 23rd, 2019, Sega and Creative Assembly has officially announced. It's the second major
Three Kingdoms delay, as the highly anticipated real-time strategy was actually supposed to hit stores last fall.
"
It’s been an incredibly busy and exciting time for us in the studio. We’ve been able to show you more of [Total War] Three Kingdoms than ever before and taking the time to evaluate it thoroughly," Creative Assembly Brand Director Rob Bartholomew explained in a note to fans. "
There are some revolutionary features going in and it’s looking really good. But we want to make sure it’s great."
According to Bartholomew, Creative Assembly is aiming to create a new level of complexity, topping all previous
Total War offerings in terms of game mechanics and sheer scope. To achieve that ambitious goal, the studio will use that extra time to make sure that the game's core systems work as indented, giving all fans the unique
Total War experience they have waited so patiently for that whole time.
The upcoming title is an indirect adaptation of Luo Guanzhong’s 14th century epic
Romance of the Three Kingdoms that will let you control the central figures of that historic period.
Three Kingdoms will also feature the Romance mode that takes the embellishment from the said novel and applies it to the game's generals and narrative, giving characters supernatural abilities and other otherworldly skills.
The year is 190CE. China is in turmoil. The Han Dynasty crumbles before the child-emperor. He is but a figurehead, a mere puppet for the tyrant warlord Dong Zhuo. It is a brutal and oppressive regime, and as Dong Zhuo’s power grows, the empire slips further into the cauldron of anarchy.
Total War: Three Kingdoms is coming to PC on May 23rd, 2019.
