The Playroom is an augmented reality game that debuted back in November 2013 alongside the PlayStation 4. In fact, it was pre-loaded on the console and entirely free. The Playroom was intended to show off the capabilities of the PlayStation Camera and DualShock 4 controller.
A spiritual successor followed The Playroom in 2018, Astro Bot Rescue. Rather than the camera and DualShock 4, Astro Bot Rescue was made with the PlayStation VR headset in mind. And, unlike The Playroom, Astro Bot Rescue was a 3D platformer.
Well, Sony has kept the 3D platformer aspect but once again evolved the "Astro bots." Announced earlier today during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, Astro's Playroom seems to be somewhat of an amalgamation of the two aforementioned games. As mentioned, it's a 3D platformer. However, it's doesn't seem to require PlayStation VR.
What's more, Astro's Playroom is free and pre-loaded on PlayStation 5 consoles. This time around, the focus is on the next-generation technology and, most notably, the DuelSense controller. Check out the announcement trailer below (via PlayStation).
Astro and his crew lead you on a magical introduction through PS5 in this fun platformer that comes pre-loaded on PS5. Explore four worlds, each based on PS5’s console components.
