Hideo Kojima's
Death Stranding is an interesting game, to say the least, as it's always been surrounded by some sort of secrecy that — for the longest time, and even up until now — has kept fans wondering what this new title is even about.
Sure, we do know that Kojima hired quite the handful of Hollywood stars to play the characters in
Death Stranding that go from
The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus and
Hannibal's Mads Mikklelsen to renowned filmmaker Guillermo del Toro; needless to say, these are somevery interesting choices.
Exactly what kind of game is
Death Stranding, though? Many players have been wondering that pretty much since the game was announced. It turns out that Hideo Kojima himself believes the answer may not be that simple; hinting that sequels are necessary in order to properly classify the game's genre.
In a recent interview with GameSpot, Hideo Kojima revealed that
Death Stranding could help pave the way for the genre it's starting, although he does think that sequels are needed to define its genre; even when he himself still isn't sure if the game will get any sequels.
"
I'm not really sure," replied Kojima in regards to
Death Stranding becoming a series like his critically acclaimed
Metal Gear Solid series. "
The most difficult part is, when you create something new, you have to create a sequel and then a third version or it [will] not remain as a genre."
"When this game comes out there will be a lot of pros and cons, and [these elements could become the essence of the core part], but I think it's better that I keep it going in a sequel."
Hideo Kojima has previously revealed that Death Stranding will feature a Very Easy Mode for people who simply wants to enjoy the experience as if the game was a movie. That in itself is an interesting concept that could well define a video game genre that can also be experienced as a movie. We'll just have to wait and see what Kojima Productions does with the game, and eventual sequels.
