While we still know next to nothing about Death Stranding two and a half years after its official E3 announcement, there's no denying that Director Hideo Kojima has managed to assemble an incredibly talented cast, including Norman Reedus (The Walking Dead), Guillermo del Toro (The Shape of Water), Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Léa Seydoux (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol), Lindsay Wagner (The Bionic Woman), Troy Baker (The Last of Us), and Tommie Earl Jenkins (How to Get Away with Murder).

According to Reedus, who plays the main character named Sam, Stranding is "kind of a new movie. I’ve never seen anything like what we’re doing. Guillermo Del Toro introduced me to him, who is also working on the game; he’s also a character in the game," he said in an interview with Metro UK.

"That guy is such a genius, Hideo Kojima," Norman continued. "I’m like, ‘Oh so they’ll be playing me?’ And he’s like, ‘No they are you. We will make them cry as you.’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about? It’s a video game.” Speaking about what to expect in Death Stranding, Norman added: "The concept is so far out into the future. Instead of eliminating everyone around you, it’s bringing everyone together. It’s a very positive video game, but scary and depressing at the same time."

Kong: Skull Island Director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has also shared his impressions from playing Death Stranding and took to Twitter today to say that the game's world is "next-level immaculate" and watching it gave him strong Max Max: Fury Road vibes. Considering that Sony will skip this year's E3, there's a chance Stranding's release date will be revealed at their own event, PlayStation Experience.

Besieged by death's tide at every turn, Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the stranded remnants of the future in his hands, Sam embarks on a journey to reunite the shattered world one step at a time. What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? A genre defining gameplay experience holds these answers and more.

Death Stranding is coming to PlayStation 4 and doesn't have an official release date yet.
