Battlefield 6 appears to have quietly scrapped a planned Mass Effect crossover. Players who had spotted locked Mass Effect cosmetics in the game earlier this month say those items have now been removed entirely.
The change was spotted on Friday, only a few days after BioWare, the studio behind Mass Effect, was closed by Electronic Arts.
What Was In The Game
The Mass Effect items first surfaced earlier this month as locked cosmetics inside Battlefield 6. According to players who found them, the set included N7 stickers and patches, a spray, a weapon skin and a charm based on the Normandy, the iconic ship from the original trilogy.
Their timing pointed to a clear release window. Content creator Kala Elizabeth was among the first to flag them, writing on X, "There's new Mass Effect accessories for Battlefield, probably for N7 Day." N7 Day is the annual celebration of Mass Effect held every November 7, named after the elite Alliance designation worn by Commander Shepard.
The current Battlefield 6 season is already leaning heavily on EA crossovers. The official Battlefield account kicked off the Dead Space Convergence event last week, which runs in both Battlefield 6 and Battlefield REDSEC until November 10.
A Mass Effect drop on N7 Day would have fit that pattern, giving another EA franchise a showcase inside one of the publisher's biggest live games.
The Items Have Disappeared
On Friday, the fan account Mass Effect News reported that the content was gone, writing that "Battlefield 6 has removed all locked Mass Effect cosmetics and skins. They were likely meant for N7 Day release."
The same account pointed out that this would have been the "third Battlefield game to have collab with Mass Effect," following crossovers in Battlefield 3 in 2012 and Battlefield 2042 in 2025.
EA has not commented on the removal, and there has been no official word on whether the cosmetics have been canceled or simply delayed. It is possible the items will return at a later date, but for now there is no sign of them in the game.
The BioWare Connection
The timing is hard to ignore. Last week, EA closed BioWare and ended early development on the next Mass Effect game. The closure was part of roughly 400 job cuts across the company, including around 50 people at BioWare.
With the studio gone, an N7 Day celebration inside Battlefield 6 may have felt awkward for EA. Mass Effect fans were already processing the loss of the studio that created the series, and a cosmetic bundle landing two weeks later could easily have been seen as tone-deaf. It is also possible the collaboration was tied to plans for the next game that no longer exist.
None of that has been confirmed, so the reason for the removal remains unclear.
A Rough Stretch For Mass Effect
The canceled collab caps a difficult period for the series. The original trilogy ran from 2007 to 2012 and became one of the most beloved sci-fi franchises in gaming, but the series has had few new releases since Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2017. Mass Effect Legendary Edition brought the remastered trilogy to modern platforms in 2021, and BioWare first teased the next game back in 2020, but that project ended with the studio's closure.
The franchise is not finished outside of games. The live-action Mass Effect series in development at Amazon was not mentioned in BioWare's closing statement, and there has been no official update on its status since the shutdown. For now, small appearances like a Battlefield cosmetic set were one of the few ways the series was still showing up in front of players.
What Is Next For Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 is currently in Season 5, which takes players to Las Vegas and added the Rapid Royale mode alongside the Area 51 setting used by the Dead Space event. The next major update, Frozen Aces, is set to arrive on December 8.
For Mass Effect fans, N7 Day on November 7 will be the next moment to watch. With BioWare closed, it is unclear what EA has planned for the celebration this year, if anything.
Do you think EA should still release the Mass Effect cosmetics in Battlefield 6 as a tribute, or was pulling them the right call after the BioWare closure?
