Ghost of Tsushima — Sucker Punch's highly anticipated PlayStation 4 exclusive, and final Triple-A title for the console — was finally released this past Friday, and the game has had a very positive reception; with a solid Metascore of 83/100 from critics, and a phenomenal 92/100 from mainstream players.
As recently reported by GamesIndustry.biz, Ghost of Tsushima has also managed to slice through the competition in regards to sales in the United Kingdom, comfortably sitting in first place, and comfortably beating Nintendo's Paper Mario: The Origami King, which released on the same day.
As a matter of fact, Ghost of Tsushima was able to sell four times more copies than Paper Mario: The Origami King, although this wasn't enough to even come close to the number of units sold last month by Naughty Dog's fairly divisive The Last of Us Part II.
With all that said, Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima is a brand-new intellectual property, while The Last of Us Part II already had an established fanbase that definitely helped boost those sales; doesn't take away from the massive number of copies sold, but it's still worth pointing out.
A fair comparison would be between Bend Studio's Days Gone — also a new intellectual property that released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive last year — and Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima. Interestingly enough, Ghost of Tsushima's sales were 7% higher than Days Gone.
Unfortunately, we don't have the exact numbers when it comes to sales for neither Ghost of Tsushima nor Paper Mario: The Origami King, but Sony and Nintendo will likely be revealing that information soon; considering how well both titles have been doing since launch.
