Ghost of Tsushima has become many players' most anticipated game of the year. The game looks like it will be giving players an experience like none other, and it is easy to see that the developers at Sucker Punch have really turned the upcoming title into a passion project.
Players who have been following the project since it was announced know very well that this game is really something special, but most were convinced after Sucker Punch and PlayStation released the Ghost of Tsushima-focused State of Play presentation, in which we got to see almost 20 minutes of gameplay.
Creative Directors for Ghost of Tsushima Nate Fox and Jason Connell have recently revealed that the game will actually be encouraging exploration by giving players some worthwhile rewards — especially for those who enjoy going on side quests.
"Jin’s transformation from Samurai into the Ghost is the main story of the game, but while on that journey he’ll run into a number of other characters with stories of their own. If players choose, they can dive deep into these side stories, forging a tighter bond with other brave people fighting to save their home.
Not only do these stories provide a greater perspective on the invasion, but they offer some of the best rewards in the game. While traveling, Jin will come upon a number of towns which are full of vendors and the opportunity to find more side stories," replied Fox to a question about the game featuring villages, towns, and side missions besides the game's main story.
Connell adds to Fox's reply while also adding that Ghost of Tsushima's story expands beyond the game's main plot thanks to side tales, and these add lore to the island of Tsushima. On top of this, all of this side content will give players a wide variety of rewards.
"Ghost of Tsushima is a story driven open world game. An anthology of stories surrounds Jin’s main story in the form of side tales. Some of these are brief and some wrap Jin up in interesting characters, giving players an opportunity to learn more about his island and his new friends.
We want to reward players for exploring the open world of Tsushima, So, all content outside of the main story offers a variety of rewards. It could be collectibles, resources, or charms like we’ve shown in our State of Play video. There are even a few side missions that offer sets of armor as a reward," explained Connell.
Ghost of Tsushima is still a bit over a month away from becoming available, and everything the developers at Sucker Punch have shared about their upcoming title really makes us think that it will be a strong contender for one of this year's best games.
In 1274, the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the Japanese island of Tsushima and slaughters its legendary samurai defenders. Jin Sakai is one of the last survivors of a noble samurai clan. To combat his overwhelming foes, he must pioneer deadly new fighting techniques--the way of The Ghost--and wage an unconventional war for the people of Japan.
Ghost of Tsushima is expected to release exclusively for the PlayStation 4 on the 17th of July.
