Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event was initially scheduled to take place on June 3rd (or 4th depending on your timezone). The event itself was delayed on account of the #BlackLivesMatter protests that, at the time, were enrapturing most of the states. However, Sony renewed its trademarks for the Gran Turismo series on that date — as you can see here.
Therefore, the cat was essentially out of the bag. Either it was a strange coincidence, or the next Gran Turismo game was going to be revealed during the postponed event. Well, now we know that the latter was the case for sure.
The PlayStation 5 reveal event took place earlier today, and, along with a plethora of other PS5 games, Gran Turismo 7 was officially revealed. It's the first installment in the long-running racing game series since Gran Turismo Sport debuted for the PlayStation 4 back in 2017 and the first numbered entry since Gran Turismo 6 back in 2013 for the PlayStation 3.
Gran Turismo 7 is developed by Polyphony Digital, and it's exclusive to the PlayStation 5. The racing game's reveal trailer showed off some shockingly realistic visuals — cars in action on the racetrack. Not only that, but we also got a look at gameplay. Mainly from the first-person perspective, meaning from inside the cockpit of a racecar.
