It seems that Hideo Kojima's highly anticipated
Death Stranding will be reinventing the wheel when it comes to video game innovation; or at least that's what Kojima himself is suggesting in his latest message on social media about the game's core mechanics.
While some people could've expected
Death Stranding to offer a similar experience to that seen in the
Metal Gear Solid series, particularly in regards to it's stealth component, this brand-new title is actually the first in its very own genre; one that Kojima has called action game/strand game.
Kojima doesn't make very clear what this new genre means in terms of gameplay, but he does make clear that
Death Stranding is not a stealth game nor a first-person shooter. From what we've seen in trailers,
Death Stranding does feature a lot of exploration, but it seems that Kojima's "strand game" concept could lean more towards a psychological aspect; especially since every trailer has left fans with more questions than answers.
Death Stranding is still quite a few months away from releasing but, with the E3 just around the corner, we may get some proper gameplay soon and we'll finally get a better idea of what this new "strand game" genre Hideo Kojima has coined is all about.
Sam Bridges must brave a world utterly transformed by the Death Stranding. Carrying the stranded remnants of the future in his hands, Sam embarks on a journey to reunite the shattered world one step at a time. What is the mystery of the Death Stranding? What will Sam discover on the road ahead? A genre defining gameplay experience holds these answers and more.
Death Stranding will be available for the PlayStation 4 on the 8th of November.
