MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is expected to become available this Holiday, and the game has been revealed to launch for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5; both giving players a new Spider-Man adventure, but with the the latter offering the true next-gen experience.
The developers have also revealed that the original MARVEL's Spider-Man is being released on PlayStation 5 with some graphical enhancements, which players can get via the MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition, or by purchasing it individually from the PlayStation 5 online store; or so we initially thought.
Considering that some developers have given players the ability to upgrade their games to their next-gen counterparts for free, MARVEL's Spider-Man owners have been wondering whether Insomniac Games will be doing the same, and giving them the remaster as a free upgrade.
Unfortunately, this will not be the case. Sony has confirmed today that MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered can only be obtained by purchasing the MARVEL's Spider-Man Ultimate Edition, as the game will not be offered as a standalone purchase.
MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, but players who purchase the standard version on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the standard PlayStation 5 version of the game; then again, this only applies to MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and does not include the remastered version of the original game.
Those who do get MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PlayStation 4 can easily upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version of the game, and can later "take advantage of a paid upgrade" that will allow them to download MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered.
If this sounds more complicated than it should be, is definitely because it is unnecessarily more complicated than it should be, but hopefully Sony's official statement will clear things up a little bit more for you — which you can read down below:
"MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered is an enhanced version of MARVEL's Spider-Man, and is included as part of MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultiamte Edition for the PlayStation 5. In addition, players who purchase MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales on PlayStation 4 can upgrade at no additional cost to the PlayStation 5 version of MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and can take advantage of a paid-upgrade to download MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered.
There are no plans currently to offer MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered as a standalone. Players with a copy of MARVEL's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 can purchase MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ultimate Edition to experience MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered on PlayStation 5. MARVEL's Spider-Man for PlayStation 4 also will be backwards compatible on PlayStation 5."
While this may be somewhat disappointing news, it was to be expected, since MARVEL's Spider-Man: Miles Morales is not really being treated as an expansion to the original game, and it does actually make sense to make MARVEL's Spider-Man: Remastered an exclusive treat for those who do purchase the PlayStation 5 and want to enjoy the upgraded version of the 2018 title.

This is an experienced Peter Parker who’s more masterful at fighting big crime in Marvel's New York. At the same time, he’s struggling to balance his chaotic personal life and career while the fate of millions of New Yorkers rest upon his shoulders.
MARVEL's Spider-Man is currently available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
