A new Twitter account from Sony Interactive Entertainment made itself known last night (via
Comicbook.com). It's got something to do with
Ape Escape.
Ape Escape was a party platformer which released on May 31st, 1999. Published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and SIE Japan Studio. The franchise has been lying dormant since 2010. Hence why it's interesting that a seemingly official Twitter account related to the game has popped up.
The account seems to be hinting at a sequel or remake of some sort - it being the franchise's 20th anniversary this year. Though the account doesn't feature a "Verified" tag, it has been followed by the official SIE Japan Studio account (
@SonyJapanStudio) - which doesn't follow all too many accounts.
Roughly translated, the tweet reads:
"Piposar (20 years since then. I've been running around, but I wonder if there's anyone chasing me anymore." It also comes with an image of one of the titular apes peeking around a tree. This certainly seems to be hinting at a resurgence of some sort for the forgotten franchise. We'll just have to wait and see how the situation develops.
