A recent report has revealed that Sony isn't pulling any punches with the PlayStation 5, especially when it comes to the number of consoles they are planning to sell, which doesn't really come as a surprise, as they have always strived to outdo themselves in this particular regard.
According to information shared by Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki, Sony's expects to sell well over 100 million PlayStation 5 units through the next-gen console's life cycle, and surpass the goal that the PlayStation 4 has set.
To put things into perspective, the PlayStation 4 was released in November of 2013, and as of the first quarter of 2020, Sony's current-gen console has managed to sell a very impressive 112.3 million units; trailing behind the PlayStation 2's impressive 155 million units sold.
What's more, Totoki also reveals that Sony expects that the PlayStation 5 sells a pretty solid 7.6 million units before the end of its first fiscal year, stating that "We will be launching the PS5 in the best ever condition."
This also agrees with a statement issued by PlayStation Chief Operating Officer Jim Ryan, who revealed that Sony expects the PlayStation 5 to outsell the PlayStation 4 in its first fiscal year.
Japanese analysts are even more optimistic about the number of units the PlayStation 5 will manage to sell by the end of its life cycle, predicting that Sony's highly anticipated next-gen console could even manage to sell a staggering 200 million consoles, and become the best-selling home console in history.
PlayStation 5 is expected to launch mid-November, and it already features a pretty solid lineup of games that will be available at launch, while also being backwards compatible with an overwhelming majority of titles in the PlayStation 4's library, so things are really looking up for Sony right now.
PlayStation 5 is expected to launch on Thursday the 12th of November in the United States, Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea; worldwide release on Thursday the 19th of November.
